The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY is an international racing series with zero emissions. This series serves as a support race for the "FIA Formula E Championship," which started at the end of the 2018 season. Participants compete in races using a specially prepared version of the "Jaguar I-PACE" electric road car before the ePrix stages.
The series announcement took place on September 12, 2017, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, under the leadership of "Jaguar Racing" Chairman Gerd Mäuser and "Formula E" CEO Alejandro Agag.
Car: The racing car I-PACE, bearing the same name as the road version, was built by "Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations." Both the road and racing versions of I-PACE use electric drive technology developed by the "Jaguar Racing" racing division as part of the "I-TYPE Formula E" program, which, as of 2020, is a chassis supplier for ePrix cars. On January 11, 2018, it was announced that Michelin would become the official tire supplier for this series.
Format: Up to 20 drivers can participate in each race, including various VIP drivers. Similar to the parent series, the racing weekend begins one day before the ePrix. Unlike "Formula E," the "I-PACE eTROPHY" free practice starts on the same day as the race, which becomes the first event of the weekend. Then, on the next day, a 30-minute qualifying session and a scoring race take place, lasting for 25 minutes + one lap. The "Attack Mode" from the parent series also carried over to the 2019–20 season.
Teams: Drivers compete in three classes - Pro, Pro-Am, and Guest. Points in the individual standings can only be scored by Pro and Pro-Am drivers. The Guest class is reserved for VIP drivers who compete outside the standings.
